Had a blast shooting Alicia today! Where do we even begin? Ok, let’s start by introducing our star, Alicia..An adorable one year old with a tiny body and a BIG personality! Alicia is the daughter of Michael and Zully, two of our very close and dear friends. Because of our long friendship, Mike and Zully have been a big part of our photography– very willingly they allowed themselves to be our “lab experiments” so to speak..lol. Actually, because Elkin is self-taught, many of our friends and family have been. Naturally, much of our success can be attributed to them. Anyway, this wasn’t Elkin’s first encounter with Alicia. Our first photoshoot with the missy was back when she was still in the belly! Elkin’s first maternity session was Zully’s, we then snapped a few pictures when she was just one day old (tear!) and had an in studio session with her again at four months. Safe to say there has been MUCHO improvement… right Z?..lol.
So our day started around 2:00 PM with a session at the studio. We were under the impression that photographing a one year old was in a way going to be a little easier than shooting an infant because you have a lot more flexibility with the things you can do with them. Their muscles are stronger so you don’t have to be so cautious when holding them, they are able to stand on their own, they respond to their name so you don’t have to sit up rattling a toy for hours to get them to look up..(not that we mind..lol). and just a lot more pros. Anyway, sounds easy enough right? False!!! One year olds are independent–I had that right, but they do things at THEIR time! Well at least Alicia did…lol. There was no telling this little lady when to stay seated, when to walk, not to take off her gloves, not to eat her pearls, when to look up or give us a smile.. you get it.. She was quite the challenge and she put us all to work– no question! But in the middle of all of our pleadings, and our “look here” tricks, the million and one songs her mother sang to her to garner a smile–we realized she was giving us exactly what we wanted…she was being her, and without us knowing it, we had all the shots we wanted AND more! This was yet, another confirmation of why photographing children is our favorite type of photography EVER! lol …no need for fancy poses and tired smiles, children give you all that they are– you just have to snap, snap, snap and make sure you capture it. I of course, think Elkin did an amazing job at doing so today. Taking pictures of this “Diva” meant we screamed, we chased, we jumped (well her Mami did..lol), we may have suffered from temporary high blood pressure, we found a remote controller in the fridge, we learned that our dog was fed rice pudding for the first time (yes, by her with her spoon), we had to take a small shower break, we possibly pissed off the downstairs neighbor (hahah!), we learned the importance of a “child-proof” home”, ha! the list goes on! But most importantly, we laughed our hearts out! The shoot started at the studio, made its way to mall and the park and ended back at our star’s home for pizza and wine! Oh the joy of shooting with friends:-)
“Cuantos anos tiene la nena”? ” Unnnooooooo” haha! She’s awesome!!
I can’t tell you how many times she ran that entire necklace through just those four little teeth!
A princess?? No! A ROCKSTAR!! I loved her Madonna look! Check out the gloves! <3
Our new studio prop! Thanks Z! What a gorgeous Parasol.
One of my absolute faves <3
I think shes had enough….lol
This moment lasted 5 seconds! In one smooth swoop, those gloves were off! Never to touch those little hands again..lol.
I wish we had taken a picture of that lollipop after she was done with it..lol. Dare I say “a million little pieces?” A bath was in place after that.
What a cutie! Thanks Ali! We <3 you mucho.
Is almost like we weren’t there… just her picking at the leaves…
She needed soothing time! Mami’s are THE most essential part of the kid’s shoot… even I had to get in this shot 😉
Mom and daughter moments!<3
Peek-a-booo! NEVER fails..lol.
Mommy’s workout!..weeEEeEEeeEEeE. She was LOVING it! Can you tell?
