I met Angie about a year ago when she hired me to shoot their engagement party, instantly i was sold on this pair! usually with 5 minutes for portraits is kind of hard to end up with much of a lot, just the basic important poses, however on the day of their engagement party with less than 5 minutes these pros dove in and gave me some of my best work! I couldn’t be more excited when i found out they wanted me on board for their destination wedding at the beautiful Huracan Cafe! a place that has become like a home away from home for me! i just knew it it would be awesome!
Fast forward to a year later here i was in the scorching heat of Punta Cana, battling a cold but excited as hell to link up with Angie and John to make some magic! Natalia killed it as usual bringing to life Angie’s vision with soft neutral tones, linked up with Anna and Kristy who handled the girls hair and make up and Manuel of Diego Cores Films, so on this day it literally felt like a big old reunion with old friends and everyone stepped up to the plate and worked perfectly together.
Thank you Angelica for trusting me with such a special day, me and Angie (my wife, they share names…lol) had an absolute blast! hope you enjoy these pics of your day!
This was my second wedding on my first trip to Punta Cana this year and as always it was a blast, i seriously need to figure out a way to shoot there at least for 2 months out of the year, it really is effortless for me to work under the environment provided there or maybe I’m used to the NYC struggle and challenges when it comes to exploiting my creativity as a shooter, that when I shoot in PC everything almost becomes second nature.
Anyhow meet Kateryna + Chris who tied the knot at the beautiful Huracan Cafe in Punta Cana, while their guest count was very small and intimate, they packed a hell of a party and a very sweet crowd that treated me as though they knew me long before the wedding, the day started at the resort Now Larimar, just a couple of steps from the Huracan, there i met Chris and his boys at the beach, instead of going the traditional route of getting ready pics all grooms do, Chris wanted no parts of that and instead we decided on doing an improv shoot! some drinks, some football and even a champagne shower were part of his getting ready pics, just a bunch of guys having a fun time. After i was done with Chris i walked over to Huracan right on the beach (one of the joys of working on the island….lol) and I met up with my amazing bride Kat and began my usual routine of detail shots to showcase the beauty of Natis work and Kats vision and most important Kat and her bridesmaids in their candid element, I’m not sure which group i had more fun with, the guys or the girls, I think ill give the edge to the guys ONLY because they played a game of football…lol…no seriously i had a blast working with all of these guys.
Anyhow, Ill cut this wall of text short and let you guys enjoy the pics of this fantastic wedding.
For Rachel and Gabriel’s wedding celebration, we flew to beautiful La Romana, Dominican Republic for a three day celebration at Casa De Campo Resorts and Villa. The celebration began with a Friday night welcome party, followed by the wedding day on Saturday and a final goodbye brunch on Sunday. The wedding ceremony took place at Altos De Chavon, about a 15 minute drive (by golf cart, the main travel choice of the resort since it’s pretty vast). Altos de Chavon, is a replica 16th century Mediterranean village in the heart of the Dominican countryside, complete with cobblestone streets, restaurants, museums, shops, an Amphitheater, home to many concerts and St. Stanislaus church, the charming stone building church where their ceremony took place. We started the day with getting ready photos of Rachel, Rachel’s mom and mother in law and the bridal party at the resort’s salon. I then drove about 10 minutes up to Gabriel’s villa where he, his dad and the groomsman where getting ready. Rain seemed like a real possibility throughout the day, and it finally made an appearance during the outside ceremony causing it for it to be completed inside the actual church. Thankfully, this crowd was amazing and did not let the rain dampen their happiness at all. After the ceremony, we took a quick drive to the amphitheater for a few quick bridal portraits before heading to the the reception back at the Casa de Campo country club. The reception was a real blast, complete with a live music band, a super fun crazy hour- or “hora loca” a high energy show including stilt walkers, clowns, jugglers, funky hats, masks, balloons, and noisemakers where Dominican Dancers engage guest in non-stop dancing and a pretty incredible light show. Rachel and Gabriel are real stars, when we first met with them, here in NYC we thought they were such a happy and easy going couple and this did not change throughout their celebration no matter what came their way. They were genuinely thrilled with every aspect of their celebration and thoroughly enjoyed their day, their friends and families and each other. We truly enjoyed working this wedding and felt honored to capture such a special day.
