Meet Luis + Mariella. The story of how these two lovebirds came to us is pretty common nowadays — social media. Elkin and Luis are both members of an online community. Luis happened to see Elkin’s photography work on this community and liked it and the rest is the result of this post. We had to reschedule this session twice before it finally happened. First, we were set to shoot on the Sunday before the arrival of Hurricane Sandy. Not knowing how the weather would react just a day before this storm, we decided to play it safe and reschedule to the week after. Of course, that also didn’t happen because of the terrible and very ugly aftermath of the storm on the Downtown Manhattan/Brooklyn area. We scheduled a third time and of course, this was the charm. When we finally met, we were blessed with the most ridiculously beautiful fall day — ever! So beautiful in fact, that it made all that rescheduling well worth it. Luis mentioned to Elkin that he liked color and we couldn’t think of a more vibrant and colorful neighborhood than DUMBO Brooklyn! With its amazing graffiti and artwork all over, bright brick walls, cobblestone roads, and a super cool and buzzing vibe, it seemed like the perfect place for this shoot. This section of Brooklyn is sort of a little favorite of ours so we were even more excited to shoot here! Luis and Mariela were awesome! They were game for anything! I.e. The motorcycle in one of the pictures you’ll see does NOT belong to either of us four! LOL. We had so much fun during this session. Lots of conversations, some heart stopping moments — at least for Mariella and me — and even some carousel riding!

Vanessa sends us an email late on a Monday night, letting us that her and her fiancée were looking to do an engagement session and that she really liked the work she saw on our site (Thanks again girlie!). She also mentioned that she wanted to know when was the earliest we could make the session happen. On the rarest of all occasions, Elkin, who happens to be doing the first of his three weekly overnight shifts at the hospital, happened to look at his email and responds almost immediately (gasp! — I know!). Apparently Vanessa like my hubby here, is a little night owl herself and a few late night email exchanges later, a date was set, ideas were exchanged and –on the most perfect autumn Saturday yet — we were making our way through Central Park for a super fun day of shooting.
Vanessa & Juan are like those people that you want to hang out with forever! They were tons of fun and up for EVERYTHING! We might’ve “borrowed” a Central Park property cart and entered (more like climbed over) into a “NO ENTER” zone. We may have even been told “No” more than once. But it was all in the name of great pictures and while having a blast.
Vanessa & Juan are getting married next spring, in my motherland, Dominican Republic. We wish them the most perfect day and a lifetime of happiness!

On Saturday July 28th, we had the pleasure of photographing Joe + Oliva’s special day. Olivia and Joe came to us by way of one of our all time favorite clients, Carolyn. You see, Carolyn and Oliva have been “BFFs” for a LONG time. I found out just how long during Carolyn’s awesome MOH speech, (total tear jerker btw) when she showed us a picture of two fresh-faced teenage girls. We arrived at Olivia’s home around noon on Saturday at a cozy and super welcoming apartment in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Despite all the hormones in the air and all things “get wedding ready fab” throughout the apartment, there was a sense of calmness which I’ve yet to accept. [THE] Wedding day is supposed to be chaos right? Not with this bride! Olivia was genuinely one of the most laid back brides I have EVER met! She did make up for her lack of frenzy in HAPPY! She was so, so happy that NOTHING could “rain on her parade”, not even ACTUAL rain. So later, when it did rain, of course, she smiled her way through it. Actually, the entire bridal party did — we have pictures to prove it. Ha! This happiness was shared amongst all and continued to fill all parts of this special day; happy groom, happy family, happy friends.
Congratulations Joe + Olivia! May the rest of your lives be filled with all the love and happiness that we all experienced on that beautiful Saturday afternoon.
